You may already know that Joe’s closest home city, is Bristol. He grew up not too far away, in Somerset, and used to work within this super-creative city. I’ve been shown around a couple of times whenever I’ve been visiting the West Country, but recently I’ve been able to fall in love with it as much as Joe!
One of our biggest aims for improving our photography is getting to a destination before sunrise to go shoot. We’re always chasing after the best golden light of the day. But the difference between sunrise and sunset is it’s usually much quieter and you often get dramatic changes in weather, due to the cold from the night before.
So, on this rare occasion (where we could actually get up early enough!) we set off to Bristol and vlogged our experience getting photos at sunrise!
Clifton
One of the highest rated areas of Bristol, is Clifton. When talking about Bristol, the conversation almost always steers towards someone saying:
‘Clifton is such a nice area’
Probably the most common reason to visit Clifton, would be to see Bristol’s most famous landmark; the Clifton Suspension Bridge.
Clifton is one of those places where you can literally just park up on the side streets and have a casual walk around. Take a walk in some of the nearby parks, have a good coffee in any of the independent cafes and window shop along the cobbled streets.
The photos in this post, are a mixture of the ones taken at sunrise, as well as when our friends came to visit the West Country for a weekend, to explore Bristol and Bath.
City Centre
Another favourite place to walk around Bristol much closer to the city centre, is the harbourside towards Queens Square and St Nicholas market.
Home to many creative people, there are SO many reasons to visit Bristol, but it’s often only apparent when you see beneath the surface and have a wander around yourself. I’ve always known Bristol to be great for shopping, especially at Cabot Circus. But there are so many pockets of Bristol that we’ve explored recently, that have had us thinking if we weren’t based in London, it would be a great place to live!
After seeing how our photos turned out, I think getting up early for the morning glow and empty streets was definitely worth it!
If you’re night owls like us, you might want to give it a try sometime…
